Lead Photographer / Lighting Guru
Austin photographer Nate Hall discovered photography in college when he signed up for his first photography class at Texas State University. He soon switched his major to, you guessed it, photography, and spent the next couple of years taking as many fine art photography classes as he could, studying both film and digital. He was initially drawn to product photography, enjoying the challenge of coming up with a concept and then focusing on every detail to execute it perfectly. When he and wife Becky decided to launch Beck and Hall Photography, Nate signed up for a Photoshop class at Austin Community College (ACC) to refresh his digital editing skills. He found the class incredibly enriching and decided to take a few more photography classes at ACC to see what other tricks he could pick up. There, he not only learned more about studio lighting and the technical side of digital photography, he also discovered a love of creating portraits. Nate has a knack for reading light and finding just the right lighting and angles to make each person look their best. A fan of low key portraits, his signature style is more edgy and dramatic, though he’s equally talented at creating light and bright portraits in the high key style. During portrait sessions, he likes to have a conversation with subjects, capturing genuine laughs and natural poses. When he’s not busy photographing people and products, Nate loves to play guitar and to go hiking. As a musician himself, he especially enjoys working with bands and singer-songwriters.
Photographer / All Things Non-Photography
Becky started out by assisting Nate on photo shoots and handling non-photography tasks (booking, billing, blogging, website maintenance, etc.). Wanting to be the best photo assistant she could be, she signed up for a digital photography class at Austin Community College. Taking that class rekindled the love of photography she had in her early 20s when she used to shoot film on an old Canon AE-1, spending hours wandering around San Antonio and Austin photographing people and street scenes. She also enjoyed a brief stint at a San Antonio portrait studio photographing kids and families before moving to Austin in 2002 to study writing at St. Edward’s University. Taking digital photography classes at ACC reminded Becky how much she enjoyed photographing people, especially capturing fun memories for families. Now, in addition to handling all things non-photography and assisting Nate on portrait and headshot sessions and product and lifestyle shoots, Becky also creates timeless portraits that families can cherish for decades. She likes bright, vivid images that show families having fun together and being themselves. Becky still loves to write, too, and works as grant writer for Austin Pets Alive!. She also enjoys hiking, cuddling with her pets, and yoga.
